Domain transfer errors and how to resolve them

The following are causes of some common domain transfer errors:

1. Registrar Lock or Hold
Status of your domain is set to “REGISTRAR-LOCK” or “REGISTRAR-HOLD”.
If this is the case, please contact your current registrar.

2. Domain Has Expired
A domain name transfer requires that the domain name is current and there cannot
be any outstanding balance on the domain. You can check the expiration date of
your domain on the WHOIS information.

We advise you to make sure to start the transfer process at least a month before the expiration date of the domain. Please note that an expired domain can only be renewed by its current registrar.

3. 60-day Waiting Period
The domain name is within a 60-day waiting period. A transfer of registrar is not allowed for a domain name within 60 days of registration or within 60 days of a previous transfer. If this is the case, please e-mail us at support@1and1.com after the 60-day period.

4. Missing Authorization
The transfer is denied because Registrant-C/Administrative-C has no response for the confirmation of the Form of Authentication (FOA) being sent to him. If this is the case, you need to check the WHOIS information of your domain and make sure that the contact details are all correct, especially the e-mail address.

5. Lock
The domain is set to LOCK. Please note that the transfer is initiated as soon as 1&1 obtains consent and the domain is unlocked. If there is a “LOCK” set on the domain 1&1 cannot initiate the transfer process regardless if you have approved the transfer request.
