What do I do if my server is unavailable?

To check whether your server is (un)reachable please do the following:

The ping command
Enter the following into either a "MS DOS Command prompt" or on the shell of a Unix
based system:
C:\ or user@machine:~ > ping 217.123.12.12

Instead of "217.123.12.12" use the IP from your Control Panel.

If everything is okay and you haven't blocked pings on the firewall you should see
something like this:
C:\ or user@machine:~ > ping 217.123.12.12
PING 217.123.12.12 (217.123.12.12): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 217.123.12.12: icmp_seq=0 ttl=252 time=0.964 ms
64 bytes from 217.123.12.12: icmp_seq=1 ttl=252 time=0.660 ms
64 bytes from 217.123.12.12: icmp_seq=2 ttl=252 time=0.604 ms
--- 217.123.12.12 ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 0.604/0.742/0.964 ms
If your server does not react, 100% packet loss will be displayed.

If this is the case you can use our Recovery Tool which will enable you to restore
your machine in most cases.

If this fails, please call your support telephone number available through your
Control Panel and a customer service representative will be able to help you.
