IMPORTANT Remarks!

Due to the fact that you can only reach your Root Server via the network
(Internet) there are a few things to keep in mind:

Runlevels
Linux uses various Runlevels that define which services are to be activated and
which are to be left alone. By default, runlevel 3 is active. This configures the
machine to accept multiple users and enables the networking on the machine.

Do NOT alter the default runlevel in /etc/inittab. Otherwise the machine might be
unreachable after a server reboot.

NEVER change into a different runlevel using the "init" command as this would
deactiavte the rescue system. In emergencies you may use "init 6" to reboot your
machine. This command is roughly the same as "shutdown -now".

Network
The network interface requires the 8139too module. You MUST NOT remove this
module. Without this module your server will have no networking capabilities.
That includes the rescue system as well as the remote reboot functionality. The
only rescue in a case like this is to contact our support and request a manual
restart.

When setting up your firewall please ensure that port 22 (SSH) remains accessible.
Otherwise you will no longer be able to log into your server.

NEVER stop or reconfigure the DHCP Client. This would take the network down and
the rescue system would be deactivated as well.

The following services are installed correctly by default and should NOT be
modified.

Routing (Command "route -n")
Network-Interfaces (command "ifconfig -v")

Please remember that disregarding any of the above warnings will cause your server
to be unavailable, and in most cases, it will be impossible to reset it from the
Control Panel.

Administration
Support by 1&1 Internet is limited to hardware problems and networking
problems. The administration of the server is fully the customer's responsibility.
This includes securing the server against outside attacks and updating the system.
