Linux Root Server
General Questions
Article #2
Who is the Root Server for?The root server is an independent computer in our Data Center that only you can access. It enables you to install or create applications and web pages that require special functions that are not permitted or installed on our Shared Wed Hosting or 1&1 Website (formerly called Managed Servers) packages. For example: Installing a streaming server for audio or video, running game servers, etc. By giving you full access rights to your root server, we want to give you the freedom to carry out your own wishes and ideas. However, it also means that you have to look after the administration of your server yourself. The administrative tasks include installation, configuration and troubleshooting software related tasks, setting up computer security by means of security precautions, such as a firewall, backing up data, etc. For this reason we recommend the Root Server for customers with plenty of experience with Linux and who require the freedom a Root Server offers. |
